Residents of District 139,

I am writing you to inform you that our office has been successful in securing a public meeting with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regarding permit application #151715. It is imperative that we, as residents of District 139, take the necessary measures to ensure that our community is safe to live in. Concrete batch plants in residential areas have been proven to cause harmful effects to the health of residents living in these communities due to the emission of pollutants and contaminants into the surrounding air. These pollutants and contaminants include cement, road dust, fine particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide, many of which have been linked to illnesses such as asthma and cancer. These facilities also create safety hazards from truck traffic on roads that are too narrow for them, as well as noise throughout the day. The proposed location, 3411 De Soto Street, is within walking distance from a public park, residences, and schools. The meeting time, date, and location are listed below:

This public meeting is the most effective measure we can take to ensure our air remains clean and breathable. In this meeting we will be discussing the harmful effects of this type of batch plant, as well as learning about new innovations intended to filter and lessen the damage caused from concrete production from the applicant, Soto Ready Mix, Inc.
