Houston, Texas (August 15, 2017)… This holiday season, be a part of the Texas House of Representatives’ annual Christmas tradition – the decorating of the House Chamber’s 23-foot, Texas-grown Christmas tree. For the past eight years, each State Representative has received one ornament to invite a creative constituent to decorate with an individualized, visual representation of what makes their community notable. Each holiday season, thousands of Texans will visit the Capitol and will have the chance to view the House tree. These ornaments will provide a fun, interactive, and educational way for visitors to learn about each of Texas’ individual communities. This year’s Christmas tree display will take place from November 29-January 2. All ages are invited to participate and submit their design for House District 139. We are asking all interested constituents to submit the design of their Christmas ornament no later than Friday, October 7th, 2017. Upon submission, please include a personal statement describing what your chosen design means to you. For children’s design submissions, please include the age of the applicant. This deadline will ensure that each and every design is taken into serious consideration. The selected artist will be contacted no later than October 20th to coordinate the receipt of the Christmas ornament. Detailed instructions will be provided at this time. The finished ornament will be photographed and added into a photo album, allowing all Capitol visitors to learn about each ornament’s individual story. The ornament will also be added to the House website and will hang proudly on the House Chamber Christmas tree. Please submit all designs by the deadline to Paige Bufkin at Paige.Bufkin@house.texas.gov to ensure your design is considered. For additional questions or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact District 139’s Capitol office at (512) 463-0554. Thank you for contributing to the beauty and spirit of our community and assisting Representative Jarvis Johnson in showcasing District 139’s undeniable spirit.
